Under the Sun of Faro: Teambuilding with a Difference

Sound of the sea instead of keyboard clatter. Palm scenery instead of screensavers. Cocktail bar instead of coffee kitchen. For the team of Metallbude , team building didn't mean going to the conference room next door, but getting on a plane to Portugal. The reason? A collective Christmas gift from the bosses. The goal? The promotion of community through shared experiences.

Team Metallbude went on vacation together

Chilling by the pool with colleagues and even your own bosses, and enjoying the hotel buffet? For many, it's unimaginable and for us, it was a completely new experience.Sharing a workspace, good food, and (more or less) good music in the office is one thing and standard at Metallbude - but a shared holiday routine? That was something different. And yet, for four days, one beautiful or entertaining moment followed another. Any existing concerns or inhibitions were quickly thrown overboard and the time was thoroughly enjoyed - both in the individual team-building units and during the joint leisure activities between the old town, pool, and beach. Thus, each of us was able to take not only a nice tan and one or another souvenir from Portugal, but above all, important impressions on the topics of belonging, appreciation, communication, and future.

What do we take away from this time?

After four days of cool-down and team building under the Faros sun, the team Metallbude was able to draw three key insights from this time:

  1. The world does not end - and neither does the company - if you leave your laptop at home and are simply (mostly) out of office for a few days. (Also: The emails don't just run away, they still await you in your inbox after the "time out.")

  1. Team building is only useful as long as it is individually and personally tailored to the team.Simply following rigid methods and prescribed measures is little to not at all effective. In our case, it started with the choice of circumstances and environment.

  1. It makes no difference what gender you belong to, how old or young you are, and which department you represent in the company - because everyone pulls together and believes in the same vision. This made this shared experience all the more beautiful and valuable.
