DIY Shadow Gap Frame

Present your canvas in a high-quality way

You've been creative, put your art on canvas and now don't know what to do with it? A shadow gap frame gives your artwork a professional and high-quality presentation by creating a floating effect. To build your own shadow gap frame, you only need a few basic tools and materials. With a little bit of craftsmanship and patience, you can create a custom frame for your canvas that is not only stable, but also visually appealing. For reference: The canvas shown has the dimensions 80 x 100 cm. The angle bars used for it have the dimensions 82 x 102 cm, with about 1.5-2 cm being lost when cutting.

What you need:

Angle strips

Hand saw

Miter box

Strong wood glue

Folding rule

Pencil

Masking tape

Acrylic paint

Brush

Screws (at least.4)

Battery Screwdriver

Acrylic varnish (optional)

And here's how:

1. Measure your individual canvas and get the appropriate angle strips at the hardware store. Important: Pay attention not only to the length, but also to the width of the strips, so that the frame fits in the endas well.

2.Then, using a handsaw and a miter box , cut the strips at the marked spot with millimeter precision to avoid having a crooked frame in the end.

3. Glue the corners of the angle strips together with Uhu Max Repair adhesive or another strong glue, and secure the construction with masking tape so it can dry precisely and not slip.

4. Once the glue has dried, you can paint the strips with acrylic paint in your desired color. Optionally, you can also apply acrylic varnish for protection against dust and yellowing. Please note in this case, however, that the frame then needs to dry thoroughly for a few days.

5. Finally, all that remains is to carefully attach the short screws through the angle brackets to the canvas.

Have fun recreating!
