DIY Shadow Gap Frame
Put your canvas in the spotlight
You've been creative, put your art on canvas, and now you don't know what to do with it? A shadow gap frame gives your artwork a professional, high-quality presentation by creating a floating effect. You only need a few basic tools and materials to make your own shadow gap frame. With a little craftsmanship and patience, you can create a custom frame for your canvas that is not only strong, but also visually appealing.
For reference: The screen shown has the dimensions 80 x 100 cm. The angle strips used for this have the dimensions 82 x 102 cm, with approx. 1.5-2 cm missing when cutting.
What you need:
Angle Strips
Pencil
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Screws (at least 4)
Cordless Screwdriver
Acrylic Varnish (optional)
That's how it works:
1. Measure your custom screen and get the right angle strips at the hardware store. Important: Be sure to measure the width as well as the length of the strips so that the frame will fit.
2. Then, using a handsaw and miter box, cut the strips at the marked point to the exact millimeter to avoid a crooked frame at the end.
3. Glue the corners of the angle strips together with Uhu Max Repair Glue or another strong adhesive and secure the construction with masking tape so that it can dry precisely and not slip.
4. Once the glue is dry, you can paint the strips with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Optionally, you can apply acrylic varnish to protect against dust and yellowing. In this case, however, the frame will need to dry thoroughly for a few days.
5. Finally, all that remains is to carefully attach the short screws to the screen through the angle strips .
Have fun trying it out!
